Eastern Cape principal accused of blowing R1 million in school funds on alcahol and fine dining An Eastern Cape school principal is under investigation for allegedly squandering more than R1 million meant for school meals, learning materials, and maintenance on personal luxuries, including alcohol, fine dining, and fuel. According to a Sunday Times report, Ulwazi High School principal Mihlali Makhalima in Mdantsane allegedly used the school’s account for lavish spending at high-end restaurants, bars, and fast-food outlets. Bank records show that between January 2023 and April 2024, about R250 000 was spent on restaurants, R450 000 withdrawn in cash, and over R200 000 used for till cash-backs. The money was allocated through the National School Nutrition Programme (NSNP) to provide two meals a day to about 1 200 learners.
